National Educational TEchnology Standards for Teachers

1. Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity
I think that this is a great idea. I know for me the best way to learn is to have a visual and do something that is hands on. By allowing students to do a projects focusing on real world issues, it engages them in what is actually going on in the world but at the same time you are also providing them with tools so that they could later on access information on their own.
2. Design and Develop Digital-Age Learning Experiences and Assessments
I think this is also really good too. From my understanding students would have a program based on just their learning style. This would completely shut down all competition in the classroom because everyone's program would be different and designed specifically for each individual allowing them to progress at their own rate.
3. Model Digital-Age Work and Learning
The idea of having the teacher not only communicate with the student but also the parents as well is great because the parent can then encourage and help the student access the digital tools at home. The parents can then also learn with the students as the teachers models different technology usage. 4. Promote and Model Digital Citizenship and Responsibility
Being able to mold to the diverse needs for students learning is important. A teacher must be sure that all of her students understand what she is explaining especially when it comes to technology. If one student does not understand, he/she then must find an alternative. So I believe that this would be a great tool.
5. Engage in Professional Growth and Leadership
Being up to date is always a good thing. Teachers always need to engage in good leadership and show good community building. Teachers play a very important role in society and parents only want the best to teach their children. So I believe that engaging in professional growth is a good thing.

About Me

My name is Laura Matson. I was born on April 11, 1991 in Oak Harbor, Washington. My parents are military so I have traveled all over the world and have met all sorts of people. Ever since I was little I've wanted to be a teacher. I love working with kids especially special needs ones. In the summer of 2010, I went to New York and worked at a camp for the developed mentally disabled. This was my first time ever working with special needs and it just reassured me that, that is definitely what I want to do with my life. So I am hoping that once I graduate I can become employed by the government and work as a DODDS teacher on military bases overseas. By doing that I would be able to teach and see the rest of the world.

Working with special needs individuals, I can see where the use of technology would come in handy. When I worked at the summer camp there were different levels of activities that campers could do. I worked with older and campers that were capable to maintain a job so I was able to have them keep a journal online and allow them to use the internet to browse. Aside from that I took several computer classes in high school and also the BTLE test last semester. I think technology is a great aspect to have in the classroom. It allows students to become more involved in knowing how their teacher makes a powerpoint or performs other types computer based projects. Teaching a child or young individual could be easy because they could follow you step by step as you show them through a projector. Not only will you be teaching them curriculum they need to know for an exam but they will also carry this information with them later on in life.
